BEAUTY // Lee Stafford Argan oil twisted curling wand review

Hello my lovelies!
As you may (or may not) have seen, when I went to the Company Style Blogger Awards a few weeks back I got my hair done by one of the lovely ladies at Lee Stafford. She used the strangest curling want I had ever seen on me and it gave such a good look that I ended up buying it earlier in the week.

I'm such a sucker for things that give my hair massive curls with minimal effort.

Here it is - the Lee Stafford argan oil twisted curling wand.
Not gonna lie - I really like it!

As you can see, it is a really odd shape. It's based on the beach waves wand that many companies have released but the odd shape/pattern means you don't get uniform curls/waves so your finished look is much more natural. Sometimes with curling irons or straighteners the curls are just too uniform for my liking whereas I feel with these tongs my hair almost looks naturally wavy.

Another plus is the ceramic barrel is coated in argan oil meaning (in theory - I wouldn't do it) that you COULD use it without a heat protection spray. My hair always feels really soft and looks shiny after using them and I don't often get that so that is really nice!

Oh and they are just a little bit gorgeous! I love the bright pink and orange combo - they really brighten up my room!

For me, there is a very certain way to use these otherwise it can look pretty weird/not have any effect what so ever. Believe me - I have tried!

Here's my hair, freshly washed and brushed, without any product (just for comparison)

Step 1 - Make sure you brush your hair first. I know that should go without saying but this curling wand works MUCH better on brushed hair. I'm a bit lazy when it comes to that sort of thing but seriously - it helps.

Step 2 - I usually add a heat protecting spray (I don't have a particular favourite - whatever is cheap!) followed by a texturising spray (I've been using the VO5 dry texturising spray which seems quite good) and scrunch the hair a bit just to make sure any product I have added is spread a bit more evenly.

Step 3 - I use the wand to curl really small pieces of hair. I'm talking of widths between 1-2 cm. I know that sounds like it'll take forever but my hair doesn't like to curl with pieces any wider than that. Due to the shape of the wand, it doesn't matter where you put the hair - just let it fall anywhere! It adds to the look giving a more natural finish.

Step 4 - After 20 minutes (sometimes less!) I have curled my entire hair. I then use my fingers to pull out the curls and make them much, much bigger. You can brush them out too, but I tend to use my fingers to pull them out and crunch them up etc. etc. - you have more control. I finally finish with a hair spray/setting spray to keep the massive (mermaid!) curls in check and voila! You are done.

As you can see, massive, relatively natural looking curls and waves with a serious 60s vibe which I love! Okay, this is not the most versatile curling tong. I've only ever made it create huge mermaid waves but in my opinion it counts as daytime hair in the summer and evening hair in the fall so I'm not complaining! My hair doesn't like to curl at all and I find that even the morning after my hair still has a good wave to it which surprises me every time I see it.

Overall, I like this curling wand. It's a bit different to your usual curls and is much easier to use than the bobbly round beach waves wands (I've tried, I don't see the point).

Have you tried any Lee Stafford products before? What are your views on all of the weird and wonderful hair products coming into the market? Let me know!

Rachael xoxo

  6. I really want to try this, they look like they'll give a really natural finish. I'm so bad at curling by hair, I might invest in one of these at some point.

    1. The look really is natural - if you use really small pieces of hair it takes forever but you almost get that SJP look (which makes me think I should go move to New York). I'm so glad I picked it up!

  10. Well my hairs are so fizzy that I have to make a hairstyle with best curling irons which I have. Without making a hairstyle I can’t go outside, as my hairs else looks so weird. These days I am trying to make some other hairstyles with curling iron.

  11. There are certainly a lot of details like that to take into consideration. That is a great point to bring up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where the most important thing will be working in honest good faith. I don?t know if best practices have emerged around things like that, but I am sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game.
